In November of 2004, I attended a Rocket Motor Design Class at CP Technologies in Casper, Wyoming.  Taught by John Wickman, we learned how to design, mix, build, and fire experimental or amateur rocket motors over the course of 4 days.  The course was highly educational, and lots of fun!  Since then I've acquired the necessary equipment and materials to continue my experimentation with both AN (ammonium nitrate) and AP ( ammonium perchlorate) based propellants.

While many of the materials used in producing experimental rocket propellant can be dangerous if handled improperly, they are quite safe if some common-sense precautions are taken.  I certainly would not recommend that anyone attempt working with any of these materials without first obtaining training from a professional.
